Aram Manukyan

This public artwork in Yerevan commemorates Aram Manoukian (1879–1919), one of the pivotal figures of Armenian resistance during the Ottoman genocide. In 1915 he led the armed defense of Van, organizing local fighters against Ottoman forces and enabling tens of thousands of Armenians to survive. Following the proclamation of the Democratic Republic of Armenia in 1918 he became its first Minister of the Interior, but died of typhus just a year later at the age of 40. The monument stands on the street bearing his name and serves as a quiet site of remembrance for a period that continues to shape Armenian national identity.
