John Cain Arena is a multi-purpose indoor stadium within Melbourne Park, equipped with a retractable roof that can close in roughly ten minutes — a practical necessity during Melbourne's unpredictable summer weather. Opened in 2000, it sits alongside Rod Laver Arena as part of the precinct that hosts the Australian Open each January, one of tennis's four Grand Slam tournaments. With a capacity of around 10,000, the venue doubles as a year-round host for basketball, netball, and live concerts. The arena cycled through several corporate names — including Vodafone Arena and Hisense Arena — before being renamed in 2018 after John Cain, a former Premier of Victoria.
