Marineland

Marineland Antibes was a marine theme park on the Cote d'Azur that from 1970 featured dolphins, orcas, sea lions, and penguins in daily shows. It was the first such park in Europe and at times belonged to Spain's Parques Reunidos group. Renovations began in 1999 toward more humane enclosures, and a 75 million euro upgrade followed in 2006. After years of activist pressure and a French law banning dolphin and orca shows from 2026, Marineland closed for good in early 2025. The site sits shuttered today; the last remaining orcas, Wikie and Keijo, await relocation to a sanctuary.
