Fernand Léger National Museum

The Musee national Fernand Leger in Biot, in the hills behind the Cote d'Azur, is devoted to the painter and craftsman Fernand Leger and holds the world's largest collection of his work, more than 450 pieces. Leger bought the Mas Saint-Andre estate in 1955 but died the same year; his widow Nadia Leger and pupil Georges Bauquier completed the museum and handed it over to the French state in 1969. The facade carries a vast ceramic mosaic originally designed for a stadium, giving the building its unmistakable identity. Inside hang major works including Les Constructeurs and La Grande Parade, supplemented by tapestries and ceramics. Set in a Mediterranean garden, it offers a concentrated view into the late work of one of classical modernism's most important figures.
