Cannes (Grand Jas) Cemetery
Also known as: Friedhof von Grand Jas, Cimetiere du Grand Jas, Cimetière du Grand Jas de Cannes · +2
The Cimetiere du Grand Jas is the main hillside cemetery of Cannes on Avenue de Grasse. It was laid out in 1866, just as Cannes was becoming an international winter resort thanks to its English colony, and quickly developed into the burial place of the city's wealthy foreign community. Among those interred on its terraced grounds shaded by pines and cypresses are Olga Khokhlova-Picasso, the longtime partner of the painter, Lord Brougham, who effectively launched Cannes as a resort, and the actor Klaus Kinski. The hillside position offers a long view out toward the Lerins Islands. The entrance and paths are open during the day and a map at the gate lists notable graves.
