Museo di Scultura Antica Giovanni Barracco

The Museo Barracco sits in the Rione Parione directly on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, a small but dense collection of ancient sculpture that Baron Giovanni Barracco gave to the city of Rome in 1902 and that has occupied the Piccola Farnesina ai Baullari, a 16th-century Renaissance palace, since 1948. Unlike Rome's larger antiquities museums it is not limited to Roman work: Barracco bought Egyptian, Assyrian, Phoenician and Etruscan pieces on his travels, allowing an unusually broad side-by-side comparison of ancient visual cultures. Highlights include a youthful head of Ramses II, an Assyrian relief panel and a Greek Apollo. Entry is free for EU residents under 26, and the whole museum can be seen in about an hour.
