Naturmuseum Dortmund

The Naturmuseum Dortmund is the city's municipal natural history museum, operating under its current name since mid-2020 after decades as the 'Museum für Naturkunde der Stadt Dortmund'. Its collection spans roughly 250,000 objects across zoology, botany, geology, palaeontology, and mineralogy — including 150,000 insect specimens and 70,000 minerals, rocks, and fossils. The museum places a strong emphasis on public education, with programmes tailored for school groups and families. Admission is free, the building is fully wheelchair-accessible, and it is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00–18:00.
