Branicki Palace

The Branicki Palace stands in Warsaw's Old Town at ulica Miodowa 6, about 100 meters from the Royal Castle. It was built from 1740 onwards for Jan Klemens Branicki, Grand Hetman of the Polish Crown, in a late Baroque style, probably to plans by Jan Zygmunt Deybel. With its central avant-corps, a cour d'honneur opening onto ulica Podwale and richly articulated facades it quickly counted among the city's grandest magnate residences. Like most of Warsaw it was heavily damaged in the Second World War and faithfully rebuilt in the 1950s and 60s. It has been listed since 1 July 1965 and now houses offices, reception rooms and a restaurant.
