Warsaw Barbican

The Warsaw Barbican is one of Europe's best-preserved medieval fortifications — a robust Renaissance brick roundel built in 1548 that once guarded the northern entrance to the historic city. Straddling the border between the Old and New Towns, it survived centuries of war and reconstruction and stands today as one of the few remaining remnants of Warsaw's once-extensive ring of defensive walls. Visitors pass through its gates directly into the UNESCO-listed old town.
