The Winooski River Bridge, locally known as the Checkered House Bridge, is a 1929 Pennsylvania through truss spanning the Winooski River along U.S. Route 2 in Vermont. One of only five Pennsylvania trusses remaining in the state, it was built as part of a statewide reconstruction program launched after the catastrophic 1927 floods — and was the longest bridge completed under that program. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, it stands as a rare surviving example of early 20th-century American steel truss engineering, notable more for its structural pedigree than for visitor amenities.
