Zweribach is a nature reserve and strictly protected Bannwald — a forest left entirely to natural processes — in the central Black Forest, covering parts of the municipalities of St. Märgen, St. Peter, and Simonswald since 1969. As a Bannwald, no forestry operations are permitted, allowing deadwood accumulation, old-growth structures, and undisturbed creek habitats to develop. The Zweribach stream itself drops through narrow rock gorges in a series of notable waterfalls, drawing hikers from the surrounding Furtwangen area. Trails are rugged and largely unmarked, keeping the area quiet and free of tourist infrastructure.
