Aarau
Aarau is the capital of the Swiss canton of Aargau, situated on the river Aare roughly 50 kilometres west of Zurich. Home to around 22,000 residents, it combines a compact historic old town with the amenities of a small regional centre. The surrounding area offers natural destinations such as the Wiwäggupf, Ankenkübel, Führring, Hombergflüeli, and the Gälflue, as well as the nature reserve Schiebestandweiher. The city is also associated with the politician and historian August Keller (1805–1883), who was active here.
