About Gangtok

Gangtok is the capital of the Indian state of Sikkim, situated at roughly 1,650 metres elevation in the eastern Himalayas. The city of around 100,000 people offers views toward Kangchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain, and is flanked by the Teesta River flowing through the surrounding region. Visitors can explore the lively Todey Bazaar, the Bandey viewpoint, and the sites of Gurumenlha and Chamju. Paki Lhu and a distinctive large concrete sculpture are also notable landmarks. The city blends Nepali, Tibetan, and Indian cultural influences and serves as a gateway for excursions into Sikkim's mountain areas.
