Alto de Coloane
Macau
Macau is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China situated on the southern coast, west of Hong Kong, encompassing the Macau Peninsula and the islands of Taipa and Coloane. Home to roughly 682,000 residents within a very small area, it is one of the most densely populated territories in the world. A Portuguese colony for over four centuries, it was handed back to China in 1999, a history still visible in its architecture, cuisine, and urban fabric. Among the local points of interest are the Monument Garden and a public library serving the community.
