Old Protestant Cemetery

Historic Protestant colonial cemetery, part of Macau's UNESCO World Heritage Historic Centre.

The Old Protestant Cemetery in Macau was established in 1821 by the British East India Company to provide burial space for Protestants in what was then a Portuguese Catholic colony. Since 2005 it has been part of the Historic Centre of Macau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cemetery preserves a remarkable record of colonial coexistence and the graves of notable 19th-century figures including merchants, artists, and explorers.
