Як-40

A retired Yakovlev Yak-40 stands as an open-air memorial in Kryvyi Rih, part of a widespread Soviet tradition of displaying decommissioned aircraft as civic monuments. The Yak-40 was the first short-haul jet developed entirely in the USSR, entering service in the late 1960s to modernize Aeroflot's regional routes and replace the piston-engine Ilyushin Il-14. Placed on a static display pedestal, it serves as a tangible relic of Soviet aviation ambition.
