Abbatiale de la Sainte-Trinité

The abbey church of La Trinité in Fécamp, roughly 40 kilometres northeast of Le Havre, is one of Normandy's most significant Gothic ecclesiastical buildings and has been classified as a Monument historique since 1840. Its origins trace to 1175, when Benedictine monks began construction on a site venerated as sacred since the 7th century. During the Middle Ages it drew pilgrims from across northern France who came to venerate relics of the Holy Blood of Christ kept within its walls. The nave, stretching up to 127 metres, ranks among the largest Romanesque-to-Gothic transitional structures in France, with vaulting that illustrates the shift between the two great medieval styles. The church remains an active place of Catholic worship and is open to visitors interested in Norman monastic and architectural history.
