Abbatiale de Saint-Germer-de-Fly

The former Benedictine abbey of Saint-Germer-de-Fly sits in the Oise département north of Paris and ranks among the finest surviving examples of medieval monastic architecture in northern France. Founded around 801, the preserved abbey church blends Romanesque foundations with high Gothic structures raised during the 12th and 13th centuries. The standout feature is the eastern Sainte-Chapelle, a delicate Gothic chapel considered a close relative — possibly even an influence — of the more famous Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, yet predating or contemporary with it. Listed as a Monument Historique, the complex remains open to visitors and offers an unusually contemplative encounter with Romanesque-Gothic sacred architecture well away from the major tourist circuits.
