Abbaye de Notre-Dame de la Cour-Dieu

The Abbaye de Notre-Dame de la Cour-Dieu is a former Cistercian abbey founded in 1101, set deep within the Forêt d'Orléans near the village of Ingrannes in the Loiret département. The Cistercian order deliberately sought remote forest settings for its foundations, and the isolation of the Orléans forest matched the ideal of contemplative withdrawal championed by Bernard of Clairvaux in the early 12th century. Classified as a French historic monument, the abbey retains Romanesque remains despite its ruined state, hinting at its former importance within the regional church network.
