Adab

Adab is the archaeological remnant of a Sumerian city located near Al-Hay in Iraq's Wasit Province. During the Early Dynastic period of ancient Mesopotamia, roughly the third millennium BCE, Adab functioned as a city-state with its own line of rulers — cuneiform inscriptions record a local deity, Ningirsu, and independent kings of the city. The site remains largely unexcavated and understudied, with little visible above ground today. For specialists in ancient Near Eastern studies it represents a fragmentary but notable piece of early Mesopotamian urbanism.
