Araxa

Araxa was an ancient city in the Lycian region of southwestern Asia Minor, situated in the northern Xanthos valley near the modern village of Ören in Muğla province, Turkey. Lycia was known for its distinct language, rock-cut tomb architecture, and early federal political structure; Araxa was one of the smaller member cities of that league, which persisted well into the Roman imperial period. Little remains visible above ground today — the site is minimally excavated and far from main tourist routes, giving it the atmosphere of a quiet, largely forgotten ruin field.
