Alanya Castle

Alanya Castle sits on a 250-metre rocky promontory jutting into the Mediterranean and ranks among the best-preserved medieval fortifications in Anatolia. Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I expanded the site after the Seljuk conquest in 1221, encircling the hilltop town with approximately 6.5 kilometres of walls and more than a hundred towers. Within the walls stand the ruins of an earlier Byzantine structure alongside a Seljuk-era caravanserai and mosque. Visitors reach the citadel via a winding road or on foot, and the highest platform rewards the climb with sweeping views over Alanya Bay, the coastal banana groves, and — on clear days — the ridgeline of the Taurus Mountains.
