Manavgat River

The Manavgat River flows through Turkey's Antalya province before emptying into the Mediterranean near the town of the same name. Known in antiquity as the Melas — Greek for 'the Black One' — it was a navigable waterway in the ancient Pamphylian region and appears in classical geographical sources. Today its banks host a relaxed promenade lined with fish restaurants and tea gardens, particularly popular with Turkish day-trippers from the surrounding region. Visitors come for river boat tours, fishing, and riverside walks; the nearby Manavgat weekly market, one of the largest on the Turkish Riviera, draws additional crowds on market days.
