Alexander Column

The Alexander Column in Rostov-on-Don is a granite monument erected in 1894 to mark the 25th anniversary of Tsar Alexander II's reign. It was originally built not in Rostov itself but in the then-independent neighboring town of Nakhichevan-on-Don, which was later incorporated into the city. Listed as a regional cultural heritage site of Russia, the column stands today as a quiet remnant of late tsarist imperial culture, when such commemorative pillars were erected across the Russian Empire as symbols of dynastic authority.
