Southern Federal University's botanical garden

The botanical garden of Southern Federal University spreads across 160.5 hectares within the city of Rostov-on-Don and houses around 6,500 plant species, making it one of the most species-rich botanical gardens in Russia. Founded in 1927 in the early Soviet period, it was established as both a scientific research facility for the university and a living collection of plants from across the world. It holds protected status as a regional cultural heritage site. Visitors can walk extensive paths through diverse vegetation zones — woody plants, perennials, and greenhouse collections — offering a quiet natural retreat from the surrounding urban fabric.
