All Saints' Church

All Saints' Church in Brixworth, Northamptonshire, is widely considered one of the finest surviving Anglo-Saxon churches in England, most likely built between 750 and 800 AD. Its nave arcades incorporate Roman spoliae — reused Roman bricks salvaged from nearby ruins — a tangible link between the late Roman world and early medieval Christianity in England. Listed at Grade I since 1954, it enjoys the highest tier of statutory protection in England and Wales. The church remains an active Anglican place of worship within the Diocese of Peterborough. For students of early medieval architecture, its largely intact plan offers an unusually complete example of pre-Norman ecclesiastical construction.
