Bolbec Castle

Bolbec Castle — also known as Bolebec Castle — is a lost Norman motte-and-bailey fortification in the village of Whitchurch, Buckinghamshire, a few miles north of Milton Keynes. The site dates to the decades following the Norman Conquest of 1066 and served as the seat of the de Bolebec family, who held the surrounding land as a feudal fief. Almost nothing survives above ground today; the site is protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, prohibiting any excavation without government consent. Visitors will find little more than a faint earthwork rise — the remnant of the original motte — set quietly within the village landscape, with no signage or visitor facilities.
