Bicester Airfield

Bicester Airfield is a former military aerodrome on the northeastern edge of Bicester, Oxfordshire, first established in 1917 during the First World War. What sets it apart is its remarkably intact state: large sections of the site remain in their 1930s condition — hangars, taxiways, and ancillary buildings — earning it listed status as one of England's best-preserved early military airfield complexes. The Ministry of Defence retains ownership of part of the site, which the British Army still uses for training purposes. The civilian portion is operated by several gliding and air-sport clubs, including the Chiltern Classic Flight, which maintains vintage powered aircraft on the field. For visitors interested in aviation or interwar military history, the site offers a rare, unmediated atmosphere that no purpose-built museum quite replicates.
