Altefähr

Altefähr station sits at the entrance to the island of Rügen and serves as the first stop after the Rügendamm causeway on trains arriving from Stralsund. The station building is a listed monument in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Until 1967 it was also the junction for the Rügensche Kleinbahn, a narrow-gauge network that fanned out across the island toward Putbus. Today the halt is operated by DB InfraGO and functions primarily as a commuter and day-tripper stop between Stralsund and Rügen.
