Montabaur station

Montabaur station opened in 2000 as a stop on the Cologne–Rhine/Main high-speed line, one of Germany's busiest ICE routes. The station was purpose-built at the edge of Montabaur, a Westerwald town of around 15,000 inhabitants — a notably small settlement for a dedicated high-speed rail stop, a decision that was controversial during planning. In addition to long-distance ICE services, the station also handles regional trains on the Unterwesterwaldbahn and some freight traffic. For travelers it functions strictly as an interchange point with no further tourist significance.
