Ljubljana Botanical Garden

Founded in 1810 while Ljubljana was the capital of Napoleon's Illyrian Provinces, the Ljubljana University Botanical Garden holds the distinction of being Slovenia's oldest continuously operating cultural, scientific and educational institution. It operates under the Department of Biology at the University of Ljubljana and maintains collections of several thousand plant species, with a particular focus on native Slovenian flora. Designated a cultural monument of national importance, the garden functions both as an active research site for university botanists and as a quiet green enclave within the city. Admission is fee-based; opening hours and guided tour details are listed on the garden's website.
