Angustia

The fort of Brețcu — known in antiquity as Angustia — is a Roman auxiliary military camp located in the commune of Brețcu in Covasna County, in the Transylvania region of Romania. It formed part of the Dacian Limes, the Roman Empire's northeastern defensive frontier along the Carpathians, guarding a critical mountain pass into the province of Dacia. In 2024 the site was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with 277 other monuments of the Dacian Limes, one of the most recent additions to the World Heritage List. Sections of the camp walls and excavation areas remain visible on site, giving a tangible sense of the original fort's footprint. It is an off-the-beaten-path destination that rewards visitors with genuine archaeological depth.
