Anti-Lebanon

The Anti-Lebanon is a roughly 150-kilometre mountain range forming the natural border between Syria and Lebanon, running parallel to the Mediterranean coast from northeast to southwest. The limestone massif lies in the rain shadow of the Lebanon Mountains, making it considerably drier and more austere — wide dry valleys and semi-arid plateaus define the landscape. The range's southern end became a focal point in December 2024, when Israeli forces occupied that section of Syrian territory. For those who can access it, the high ridgelines offer sweeping views toward the Hermon massif, though the current political situation severely limits safe travel in the area.
