Penyal d'Ifac

Penyal d'Ifac is a 332-metre limestone monolith that rises almost vertically from the Mediterranean near the town of Calp on Spain's Costa Blanca, one of the most striking natural landmarks on the Levante coast. Declared a natural park in 1987, its sheer cliff faces provide nesting habitat for cormorants, Audouin's gulls, and other seabirds whose populations have recovered significantly since the park's creation. A waymarked trail passes through a tunnel blasted directly into the rock and climbs to the summit — solid footwear is essential on the exposed upper sections, but no climbing gear is required. On clear days the summit panorama extends to Ibiza, and in exceptional visibility as far as the North African coast some 200 kilometres away.
