Armenian Church

The Armenian Cathedral in Lviv, formally dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, is one of the city's oldest surviving places of worship, founded in 1301. It was built to serve Lviv's Armenian diaspora community, which in the medieval period formed one of the most influential merchant networks in east-central Europe. The ashlar stonework structure blends Romanesque-Gothic forms with Oriental detailing characteristic of Armenian ecclesiastical architecture. Over the centuries it passed through several confessional hands and underwent repeated alterations. Today it belongs to the Polish-Armenian community and sits quietly within Lviv's UNESCO-listed old town — easy to overlook, but one of the most historically layered buildings on the block.
