Esslingen (Neckar) station

Esslingen (Neckar) station serves a city with more than a thousand years of documented history, and the station building carries its own architectural weight: constructed in the Jugendstil style — German Art Nouveau — it displays the characteristic ornamentation and curved forms of the early 20th century, when railway companies competed to build civic-quality gateways. The line it stands on, the Fils Valley Railway, opened in 1845 as one of Württemberg's earliest state railway routes. Positioned under 13 kilometres from Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof, the station is the primary arrival point for the medieval Altstadt. Wheelchair users can access the station but require assistance boarding.
