Puttgarden railway station

Puttgarden station served as the German terminal of the Vogelfluglinie, the rail-and-ferry corridor linking Hamburg to Copenhagen via the Fehmarn Belt since 1963. Trains rolled directly onto the ferry — one of Europe's few crossings where passengers could remain seated in their carriages during the sea passage. With the planned Fehmarn Belt fixed link tunnel, the station's role as a ferry terminal is drawing permanently to a close. The site today is of primary interest to railway historians tracing the postwar development of Scandinavian transit routes.
