Balintore Castle

Balintore Castle is a Victorian Scottish Baronial pile perched on a rise above open moorland in the Angus council area of Scotland, a few kilometres north of Kirriemuir. Built in the 1850s as a hunting lodge, it stood abandoned for decades and fell into serious decay before a private buyer began a painstaking solo restoration effort in 2007. Its corbelled turrets and battlemented silhouette are hallmarks of the Scottish Baronial style, which Victorian Scotland adopted as an architectural expression of national identity. Historic Scotland lists the castle at Category A, the country's highest protection grade. Those who make the journey to its remote location are rewarded with sweeping views over the Angus moorland and an atmosphere of layered, unresolved history.
