Baltimore City Hall

Baltimore City Hall is the seat of city government and one of the finest surviving examples of Second Empire architecture in the United States. Constructed between 1867 and 1875, it features a prominent cast-iron dome, stained-glass windows, marble and bluestone detailing, and a slate roof — a characteristically lavish material palette for post-Civil War civic ambition. The building remains fully operational as the office of the mayor and city council, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Publicly accessible corridors display historic portraits and artworks tracing Baltimore's political history from the Reconstruction era to the present day.
