Basilica di San Vicinio
CatholicRomanesqueNational Monument+6
The Basilica Cattedrale di San Benedetto stands at the center of Nocera Umbra as a Gothic cathedral whose origins trace to a 13th-century Benedictine abbey. It serves as co-cathedral of the Diocese of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino and holds the title of Basilica minor, dedicated to Saint Benedict of Nursia, patron saint of Europe. In 1915, Pope Benedict XV elevated it to cathedral honoris causa, commemorating the ancient Diocese of Tadinum. Designated an Italian national monument, the church anchors a compact medieval hill town in the Umbrian Apennines, largely untouched by mass tourism.
