The Basilica di San Martino occupies the historic centre of Alzano Lombardo on Piazza Italia and ranks among the most notable Baroque churches in the province of Bergamo. Construction began in 1659 and continued through the 18th century, when the interior was enriched with marble work, stucco decoration, and altarpiece paintings typical of Lombard Baroque. Dedicated to Martin of Tours, the church was elevated to the status of Basilica minor by Pope Pius XI in August 1922, recognising its standing within the Diocese of Bergamo. Designated an Italian national monument, it serves as the architectural centrepiece of the town square and remains open to visitors.
