Santo Sepolcro

The Basilica del Santo Sepolcro is a Roman Catholic collegiate church in Barletta, Apulia, built in the late 12th century in a Gothic-Burgundian style that reflects the close ties between Apulian port cities and the Crusader states of the Holy Land. Its dedication to the Holy Sepulchre of Christ places it firmly in the spiritual geography of the Crusading era, when Apulia served as a staging ground for expeditions to Jerusalem. It holds the rank of Basilica minor within the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie. Inside, the restrained medieval Gothic interior stands in deliberate contrast to the ornate Baroque churches more typical of southern Italy, making it a rare surviving monument to Crusader-era piety on the Adriatic coast.
