Basilique Saint-Sauveur de Rennes

The Basilique Saint-Sauveur stands in the heart of Rennes' historic city centre and holds the formal title of Roman Catholic minor basilica. Its origins date to the early 12th century, though the current building was reconstructed from 1768 onward in a classical architectural style, replacing a Romanesque predecessor that had been extended several times over the preceding centuries. The basilica is also known as Notre-Dame des Miracles et Vertus, a name rooted in miracles officially recognised in the 14th and 18th centuries that established it as a local pilgrimage site. Suppressed as a parish during World War II, it regained that status in 2002. Listed as a protected historical monument, it remains one of the quieter but more spiritually layered stops in central Rennes.
