Batu Pahat

Batu Pahat is a coastal town in Malaysia's Johor state, established in 1894 during the British colonial period. Its name translates from Malay as 'chiselled rock', a reference to the distinctive rock formations near the river mouth. Home to nearly half a million people, it ranks among Malaysia's twenty largest urban agglomerations as of 2009. The town is noted for its multiethnic Malay-Chinese character and lively street food scene, though it functions primarily as a regional commercial center rather than a destination with specific landmarks.
