Canada's national library and archive in Ottawa, one of the world's largest documentary collections.
Library and Archives Canada was formed in 2004 by merging the National Library of Canada (founded 1953) with the National Archives of Canada. Based in Ottawa, the institution is responsible for preserving and providing access to Canada's entire documentary heritage — from historical government records to audio recordings, photographs, and books. Its holdings rank among the 16 largest library collections in the world, and it also functions as an active research institute. Visitors can access historical collections, view exhibitions, and conduct genealogical research.
