Carleton University

Carleton University is a public university founded in 1943 in the southwestern part of Ottawa, situated along the Rideau River near Dow's Lake. It was established as a non-denominational alternative to the city's existing institutions and grew into a full research university in the postwar decades, gaining particular recognition for programs in engineering, journalism, and public affairs. The campus is notable for its indoor tunnel network connecting most buildings — a practical response to Ottawa's harsh winters.
