Bletchingley Castle

Norman castle earthworks in Surrey — remains of a 12th-century spur castle along the Greensand Way.

Bletchingley Castle is the remains of a Norman spur castle in the village of Bletchingley, Surrey. Its tower stood from around 1170 to 1264, commanding views along the Greensand Ridge — a wooded escarpment running through Kent and into south-west Surrey. After the castle was abandoned, its stone walls were quarried away; today only the earthworks survive: ditches, banks, and the mound outline. Three buildings on the site are protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The long-distance Greensand Way footpath passes directly below the castle site.
