Alte Burg

The Alte Burg in Osterode am Harz is the ruin of a medieval spur castle, of which only half a keep tower survives today. Spur castles were typically built on a natural ridge protected on three sides by terrain, pointing to a once-strategic position above the town. Listed as a Kulturdenkmal in Lower Saxony, the surviving masonry fragment is the sole visible remnant of what was once a fortified complex. It offers a quiet, contemplative spot where the remaining half-tower still gives a sense of the original structure's scale.
