Bockstein cave

Bockstein cave is a karst cave in the Lone valley near Bissingen ob Lontal in the Swabian Alb, significant as a major Upper Palaeolithic site yielding stone tools and animal remains dating back roughly 30,000 years. In 2017 it was inscribed as one of six caves in the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Caves and Ice Age Art in the Swabian Jura', recognising the Lone valley as one of the earliest known centres of figurative art made by anatomically modern humans. Direct access to the cave interior is restricted, but marked hiking trails through the Lone valley connect the site to other nearby heritage locations.
