The Stock Exchange building

Copenhagen's Børsen, constructed between 1619 and 1640 under King Christian IV, is one of Scandinavia's oldest surviving Renaissance buildings, its skyline defined for centuries by a distinctive spire of four intertwined dragon tails. Originally built as a royal commodities exchange, it served as one of Denmark's economic centers for generations. On 16 April 2024, a devastating fire collapsed the iconic spire and destroyed roughly half the structure — images of the burning building circulated worldwide. King Frederik X laid the foundation stone for reconstruction in September 2024. The site is currently an active building project, with the dragon spire set to be rebuilt according to the original 17th-century design.
